About Us
For whom?
Those concerned about global issues. Those inclined to rationality and liberalism. Those wondering about what went wrong and why freedom and hope are giving way to narrow-mindedness and anxiety. Those who, perhaps without realizing it, are succumbing to irrationality and nihilism. The silent majority, who find it easier to look the other way and pretend all is fine.
Objectives
To focus on a progressive discussion of important global issues. We identify these issues and discuss their complexities.
In order to keep the focus, we mark the smokescreens and show up weak or hypocritical arguments. We also look at the motivations and mechanisms that help maintain these intellectual diversions. Where arguments are controversial but valid, we engage with them and discuss the various perspectives.
Our guiding ideas are those on which liberalism is based: individualism, human rights, rationalism, and the rule of law. We argue for the view that all people share the same rights and belong to a universal human family. We believe that mutual respect and co-operation is the way to a better world. We argue against the cynical and self-serving idea that man and human groups are inherently belligerent and that action should be based on the competitive instinct.
